Connection of Modular I/Os to Mechatrolink – New Inline Bus Coupler

The new Inline bus coupler for Mechatrolink from Phoenix Contact acts as the link between the I/O level and the Mechatrolink network (I or II). It can be used to connect up to 61 modules from the Inline automation kit.

Mechatrolink
Mechatrolink is an open network for motion control, which is used by the control system for precise synchronization and also to optimize the response between the individual servo drives. Traditional fieldbus systems such as INTERBUS or PROFIBUS are designed for the connection of a large number of I/O devices and do not focus so much on synchronization requirements. Consequently, they are only suitable for coordination and motion tasks in certain conditions. For applications, which require both motion synchronism and the collection of I/O signals, an Inline station replaces the separate fieldbus network in the Mechatrolink network.

Advantages:

  • More simple and flexible system configuration through the use of one standard network, both for motion control and for collecting I/O data
  • Simplified physical installation based on a single linear bus topology for I/O signals, servo drives, and variable frequency drives
  • Reduced overall costs, as there is no need for a separate I/O network
  • Fast high-performance control through a synchronized control network

Wireless I/O Module for Universal Use

The new ILB BT ADIO 2/2/16/16 wireless I/O module introduces a universal I/O device to the Industrial Wireless device range. 16 digital and two analog signals are transmitted wirelessly and bidirectionally to a system. The FLM BT base station is available for connection to a fieldbus. Alternatively, the FL MOD IO AP Modbus I/O access point can be used for the Ethernet connection.

Properties:

  • Fast: Latency of less than 10 ms per device, depending on the configuration
  • Reliable: Excellent coexistence with WLAN
  • Adjustment of transmission power between 0 and 16 dBm via DIP switches
  • Distances of a few hundred meters can be covered (depending on the environment)
  • Appropriate range of antennas
